May 17, 2026 – BOS recap

May 17, 2026
- People often ask me how I handle politics, the scrutiny, the criticism, and the pressure that comes with public office.
- The truth is, I think part of the reason it doesn’t affect me the way people expect is because politics was never supposed to define me. I have a career outside of politics. A marriage, kids. I had a life before politics. And I’ll have one after politics.
- I don’t make decisions based on fear of losing an election. I make decisions based on what I genuinely believe is right for this county and our communities. Sometimes people agree with me, sometimes they don’t, but I’ve never believed leadership should be driven by fear.
- A lot of who I am was built long before I ever sat on the Board of Supervisors.
- As a teenager, I went through some dark times that forced me to grow up fast. I turned that hurt into pushing my limits in the outdoors. Later, becoming a semi-professional skier taught me something else entirely: fear can either control you or sharpen you. Throwing flips over highways and launching off massive jumps teaches you pretty quickly that hesitation is usually worse than commitment.
- Backpacking and wilderness. Spending time in the mountains carrying everything on your back builds grit, resilience, and perspective. The wilderness has a way of stripping life down to what really matters.
- Later, working in law enforcement exposed me to situations most people thankfully never experience. That work teaches you to stay calm under pressure, think clearly, and keep moving forward when situations get difficult. A bad day at the office is easy compared.
- That doesn’t mean I’m fearless. Everyone has fear. But I do think my threshold for fear is different than most.
- Looking back on my life, I think all of those experiences, the hard times, the mountains, the wilderness, the work, kind of built me for this.
- After all, when you grow up skiing 60-plus miles an hour off 70 to 80 foot jumps, and jumping cliffs and cornices, your perspective on fear changes a little.
- I can deal with the politics. I can make the hard decisions.

May 15, 2026
- This is another reason why we need our Tuolumne County Sheriff department fully funded and operating at all cylinders.

May 13, 2026
- Delivering MORE.
- In Ponderosa Hills, families had one way in and one way out. If a fire came up the front side, people would die. That’s what kept me up at night when I came into office.
- I wanted the County to fix Mt. Provo Road, but between funding, ownership questions, private land, utilities, and responsibilities, it became clear the government alone was never going to get it done.
- So my friends and I started a nonprofit to make Ponderosa Hills safer.
- Through community fundraising and partnerships with CAL FIRE, Frontier, Blue Mountain Minerals, the Sonora Area Foundation, and many others, we made Mt. Provo Road drivable and gave the community an emergency escape route.
- This is what happens when you bring people together and focus on solving problems instead of making excuses. This is what MORE looks like.

May 8, 2026
- Mail in ballots have been sent, and I know many of you have already made your decision.
- I am proud of my record, proud of who I am as a father, and proud to serve this community. I have always tried to lead with honesty, transparency, and integrity, you all know who I am. I am an open book.
- If you believe in the work we have done and share those same values, I would truly appreciate your vote and would be honored to continue serving our community.
- And to all the moms out there, Happy Mother’s Day. You are the heart of our families and communities. Raising children with love, guidance, and compassion is one of God’s greatest gifts to mankind, and the impact you make every single day cannot be measured.
- Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.

May 6, 2026
- Public safety is government’s number one constitutional obligation. That’s why I’ve fought to prioritize our budget around the essentials that keep our communities safe: fire protection, law enforcement, and roads.
- I’m grateful for the support of the Tuolumne County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association. I’ll continue backing the men and women on the front lines who put in the work every day to protect Tuolumne County.

May 5, 2026
- Today’s the day, ballots are landing in mailboxes.
- Please take a few minutes to exercise your right to vote. No matter your views or who you support, civic engagement matters.
- Please vote.

May 5, 2026
- Honored to receive the endorsement of Tuolumne County Farm Bureau.
- Agriculture isn’t just part of our history, it’s part of who we are. From multi-generational ranches to local farms producing food right here at home, agriculture continues to support our economy, preserve our open space, and strengthen our rural way of life. In Tuolumne County, farming and ranching have been a backbone industry for generations, and even today livestock and agricultural production remain a major part of our local economy.
- This endorsement means a lot because it comes from the people who steward our land, feed our communities, and keep our county rooted in its values.

May 4, 2026
- I want to sincerely thank everyone who has taken the time to submit opinions to the The Union Democrat. Every single one means more to me than you know, and I’m truly humbled by the support.
- One in particular stood out. This gentleman has spent decades in county government, and his words meant a lot. Most of the time, I just put my head down and work, not looking up for support, so hearing that kind of feedback really hits home when I decided to continue to offer to serve in this role.
- And yes… I’ll admit it, I’m probably transparent to a fault but I would not have it any other way.

May 2, 2026 – We’re having a blast!!!

April 30, 2026
- I made a promise today at the debate due to Tim’s references to relationships. I’m following up with this Facebook video as promised.
- Tim McCaffrey doesn’t think opening the pass early is a big deal and actually opposes it over concerns about potential car accidents. Meanwhile, our business community is celebrating the early opening and what it means for local jobs and our economy.
- I will always support data-driven decisions, real results, and stand with our business community.

April 30, 2026
- Finally a real debate put on by TPRD and the Summerville High students.
- Last chance to see the difference between what experience and results look like and what it does not look like.
- This will be the last debate before the election.

April 29, 2026
- Attended the League of Women Voters forum tonight. I thought it would be a debate but it turned out to mostly be catered to Tim and Station 56 🤔.
- There will be another debate tomorrow evening at Tuolumne Memorial Hall, hope to see you there.
April 28, 2026 – Board of Supervisors Update
- I’ve received a number of complaints regarding my campaign signs. – watch my video and get a good laugh.
- SierraNow.org is a citizen-led initiative. If you’re interested, I encourage you to check out their survey. This effort is not affiliated with the Board of Supervisors in any way.
- Defensible Space Grant letters are going out. Please see the attached information for details.
- Today, the Board approved moving the Office of Emergency Services under the Sheriff.

April 27, 2026
- Honored to be endorsed by the Deputy Sheriff’s Association.
- As a Board member, I spearheaded making law enforcement our top priority by introducing priority based budgeting, funding what matters most first. Not exactly rocket science, but it hadn’t been done before.
- For too long, everything was treated equally, and our Sheriff’s Office paid the price with critical staffing shortages. We turned that around, including fixing our 911 dispatch center, and we’re protecting the full system, Sheriff, District Attorney, and Probation because public safety only works when every part of the wheel is strong.
- Our TNT narcotics unit is back, keeping fentanyl off the streets and saving lives. School resource officers are back in our schools keeping kids safe. Animal Control is now operating under the Sheriff successfully, and soon the Office of Emergency Services will have the support it needs to continue its work before, during, and after emergencies.
- Looking ahead, I want to add a dedicated attorney in the DA’s office and an investigator in the Sheriff’s Office to focus on crimes against vulnerable populations, children, the elderly, women, and the LGBTQ+ community. All deserved to be safe in our community. I pushed for this before, but it wasn’t supported in the budget. I’ll keep pushing.
- This is a public safety election. Vote for me, and it stays a priority. Vote for the other guy, and in one budget cycle, it goes backwards.

April 23, 2026
- Last weekend was an incredible night at the K-9 fundraiser dinner.
- As many of you know, I’ve worked hard not only to restore funding for the Sheriff’s Office, but to shift our budget priorities so public safety stays front and center.
- What many don’t realize is this: our K-9 unit is owned and supported by you, the community.
- Over 400 people showed up, stepped up, and donated to make sure these dogs stay on the streets where they belong:
- Tracking suspects and protecting deputies
- Apprehending dangerous offenders
- Detecting narcotics and helping keep fentanyl off the streets and out of our schools and neighborhoods
- This program works because of community support and it’s making a real difference.
- I look forward to this event every year.

- Board of Supervisors Update April 14, 2026
- We are in the process of hiring a new Community Development Director
- Today (April 15) I participated in a forum with my opponent hosted by the Tuolumne County Association of Realtors and the Business Council. It was about an hour and a half conversation. Anyone who attended, feel free to leave comments on what you observed.
- Twain Harte chamber of commerce forum is at Twain Harte School tomorrow from 5:30 to 7. Check the Chamber of Commerce website to see if there are any tickets still available

April 15, 2026
- When I got into office, the Sheriff’s Department was not a priority. Not anymore! By putting funding toward public safety where it should have been all along, we have gone from 61 deputies to 78. That has allowed Sheriff David Vasquez Tuolumne County Sheriff to stand back up the narcotics team, keeping fentanyl off our streets, and bring back school resource officers to protect our kids. While others campaigned for more, I delivered it. To sustain this, I have introduced priority based budgeting to make fire, law enforcement, and roads our priority, not just in words, but in finances. This is a public safety election. Vote for me and it stays. Do not vote for me, and within one budget cycle, you will see the trends reverse.
- This election race is over June 2nd. Please vote.

- Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to serve at the Foothill Pregnancy Center dinner alongside my two oldest kids. It was a meaningful experience to be there together supporting such an important cause.
- Thank you to everyone who showed up and donated, your generosity truly makes a difference in our community.
- It was also special to see Dr. Burnell, who delivered both of my oldest children. Included is a photo of a live sonogram, a powerful reminder of the work being done every day.
- Last year alone, over 500 local women came through the center and were provided with resources and support to help secure their child’s life.

- Good afternoon, District 3 Tuolumne County,
On April 16th from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Twain Harte School cafeteria, the Twain Harte Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a conversation between myself and Tim McCaffrey, who is running to unseat me. - This discussion will focus specifically on Chamber of Commerce issues impacting Twain Harte.
- It sounds like most of the tickets have already been claimed by Chamber members, and McCaffrey has been actively promoting them. There are only a few spots left.

April 1, 2026
- Getting some district 3 love !

April 1, 2026 – April Fools Day
- Today, on April fools day, I’m excited to roll out a bold new proposal for Tuolumne County.
- If elected on June 2nd, I will move forward with creating the first-ever Dire Wolf Petting Zoo right here in our community.
- That’s right — real, live, prehistoric dire wolves… available for petting.
- This project would be fully funded with taxpayer dollars to ensure it’s accessible to everyone, because I believe no family should be priced out of petting a 150-pound Ice Age predator.
- Imagine the impact:
- Tourism through the roof
- Field trips kids will never forget
- And finally… something that makes Tuolumne County impossible to ignore
- Some people will say this sounds unrealistic.
- Some will say it’s too bold.
- But I believe it’s time we start thinking bigger.
- On June 2nd, vote Kirk — and let’s make history.
- (And yes… pet the wolves.)
